Arteriosclerosis obliterans, diabetic food diagnosis and treatment.

Program of teaching in internal medicine-angiology for students
(IV year study in Medical Academy) 2005/2006

I semester

1. The ground of the angiological examination:
- anamnesis, risk factors of atreriosclerosis and other predispositions to vascular disease
- physical examination
- laboratory tests in vascular diseases
- special diagnostic tests:
noninvasive technology (ankle systolic blood pressure at rest and following exercise, plethysmography, ultrasonography, isotopic scans, computerized tomography, magnetic resonance) and invasive-arteriography.
2. Chronica occlusive peripheral vascular diseases:
- location of the occlusion, stage of the ischaemia
- arteriosclerosis obliterans,
- vasculitis in course of the autoimmune diseases
- thromboangiitis obliterans
3. Therapy:
- exercise training program
- pharmacological therapy
- transluminal angioplasty
- indications to surgical therapy
4. Acute arterial occlusion
- clinical picture(symptoms and sings)
- diagnosis
- "blue toe" syndrome
5. Thoracic outlet syndrome (symptoms, diagnosis)
6. Vasospastic disorders: cold sensitivity of the Raynaud's type, livedo reticularis, acrocyanosis; diagnostic and therapy.
7. Diabetes mellitus, etiology, classification.
8. Late complications of diabetes mellitus
- large vessel atherosclerosis
- microangiopathy ( nephropathy, neuropathy and retinopathy)
- diabetic foot ulcers.

II semester

1. Symptoms and diagnosis venous disorders
2. Acute venous occlusion - deep vein thrombosis; etiology, clinical features and diagnosis, therapy and prophylaxis
3. Pulmonary embolism; diagnosis, therapy
4. Postthrombotic syndrome:
- indication to massage
- continuous compression therapy
- prophylaxis venous ulcerations
5. Therapy venous ulcerations
6. Superficial thrombophlebitis; etiology, clinical features, therapy
7. Primary hypertension; diagnosis, clinical evaluation, laboratory investigation
24-hours arterial pressure measurement, effects of hypertension ( heart, retinal and central nervous system, renal)
8. Essential hypertension
9. Secondary hypertension,
- laboratory investigations,
- duplex-scan, angiographies and isotopic scans
- renal vascular hypertension
10. Treatment of hypertension
- general measures, drug therapy
- PTCA renal artery
- treatment of old and young people
- treatment in diabetes mellitus
- treatment in autoimmune diseases
